The incumbent’s duties include: providing academic counseling for the men’s basketball team and monitoring their progress; determining appropriate intervention strategies when necessary; creating weekly academic progress reports; traveling with the men’s basketball team when in season; assisting with initial and continuing eligibility; monitoring evening study hall; assisting with the recruitment of new student-athletes and new student-athlete orientation; coordinating the student-athlete affairs program; teaching a Intro to the University course for student-athletes; serving as the liaison for various committees; coordinating community service and mentoring opportunities; and performing other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletic Director/SWA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, counseling, sports psychology or related field and one year (three to five preferred) of professional experience in academic advising, teaching, counseling, or tutoring, preferably working with student-athletes at a Division 1 level. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. N4A Individual Certification and an understanding of NCAA, America East and UMBC rules and regulations preferred. Experience working with PeopleSoft and GradesFirst desired.
