Quincy University Coaches Clinic

The Quincy University men's basketball program will hold a star filled coaching clinic on October 29th. The clinic will feature head coaches Marty Bell, Bruce Weber, Steve Hawkins and Lennox Forrester as well as have representatives from both Gatorade and NuFit.

The clinic will be held in Pepsi Arena on Saturday, October 29th and cost is just $30 per coach for early registration and $35 per coach at the door. Coaches will discuss various offensive and defensive philosophies as well as individual and team drills. Breakfast will be served prior to the clinic from 7-8:30 a.m. and lunch will be provided by the Butcher Block following the clinic at approximately 1 p.m. For registration information contact Jon Perry at (217) 228-5340 or by email at quhawksbasketball@gmail.com

Bruce Weber is in his 9th season as head coach at the University of Illinois. During that time he has guided the Fighting Illini to six 20-win seasons and compiled a 193-86 overall record. He has led Illinois to two Big Ten Championships and six NCAA Tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2004-05 when he led his team to a 37-2 record. Weber holds a career coaching record of 296-140 in 13 seasons. Prior to taking over at Illinois Weber served as head coach at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale for five seasons where he led the Salukis to back to back NCAA Tournament appearances in his final two seasons at the helm. Weber was named the 2005 National Coach of the Year by numerous organizations including the Naismith Award, Henry Iba Award and by the Associated Press.

Steve Hawkins, head coach at Western Michigan University, is returning to Quincy, a place that is more than familiar with. Hawkins served as the head coach of the Quincy University men's basketball program from 1991 until 2000, compiling a 137 wins over that time. He led Quincy to three NCAA Division II Tournament berths and is the 4th winningest coach in program history. Hawkins is currently in his 9th season as head coach at Western Michigan where he has led the Broncos to four postseason tournaments. He has 145 victories while at Western Michigan and guided the Broncos to four 20-win seasons.

Lennox Forrester is in his 5th season as head coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Forrester helped take over a program that made the transition from NCAA Division II into the Division I level and holds a 32-54 overall record with the Cougars. Forrester has led his team to several notable victories including capturing the Drake University Hy-Vee Classic title in 2010. In 2007-08, his first year at SIU Edwardsville, he led the Cougars to a 17-11 record and qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. Prior to joining SIU Edwardsville Forrester served as an assistant coach for five seasons at Bradley University, helping the team reach the Sweet Sixteen in the 2005-06 season. He also spent 10 years as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville prior to Bradley.

Quincy University head coach Marty Bell is beginning his 9th season with the Hawks. Over that time Bell has helped restore the Hawks basketball tradition taking over a program that had six consecutive losing seasons before his arrival into one that has now had winning seasons in their last seven years. In eight seasons Bell has led the Hawks to four NCAA Division II National Tournaments, including guiding the Hawks to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. He has compiled an overall record of 142-93, the third most wins in program history, and led Quincy to three 20-win seasons. Bell has previously worked as an assistant coach with Drake University, Indiana University (Pa.) and Lock Haven University.
